10-Day Okavango Delta, Boteti River Mobile Safari Experience (incl. Moremi, Khwai, Savuti, & Nxai Pans)

Day 1: Arrival and sunset mokoro ride on the Boteti River

Your Botswana expedition begins at Maun Airport, where you will be met by your professional ranger and guide. A short twenty-minute transfer brings you to the peaceful Boteti Tented Safari Lodge. After checking into your luxury elevated tent, which features a private veranda and en-suite facilities, you can enjoy a refreshing welcome drink while soaking in the sights of the surrounding bush.

As the heat of the afternoon begins to fade, you will head to the riverbanks for a signature sunset mokoro safari. Drifting quietly along the Boteti River in a traditional dugout canoe allows for an intimate perspective of the local wildlife, including hippos, crocodiles, and an array of vibrant waterbirds. If river levels are too low, you will instead enjoy a cultural tour of Xobe Village, featuring traditional dances and local craftsmanship.

Your first evening concludes with a delicious, traditionally prepared dinner served around a crackling open fire under a brilliant canopy of stars.

Day 2: Mobile Camping Safari into Moremi Game Reserve area

After breakfast, served between 7AM and 8AM, you can get your things ready for your mobile tented safari. You will be met and briefed by your guide at the reception area. You will cover a large distance over the next few days, while extensive game drives most of the days.

After the briefing you will make your way to Savuti – a place of enchantment and greatest concentration of animals in the Southern African region. Bordered by the Delta and Chobe National Park, Savuti is famous for its lengthy fascinating and mysterious channel. Along the way, you will be served with some light snacks while your game ranger uses his exceptional skills to interpret wildlife to you in a unique way.

After a long and usually tiring but always exciting day you will make your way late in the afternoon to your beautifully lantern lit campsite where you will meet the rest of the camping team, often getting the smell of your traditional dinner being freshly prepared, as you approach.

Sit around the open fire and absorb the magnificence around you while enjoying a delicious meal and glass of wine while listening to the calls of the night.

Day 3: Mobile Camping Safari Exploring the Savuti Area

We start off with a fresh cup of coffee/tea and delicious cooked breakfast. On this day you will continue your game drive and make your way to several places of interest within the Savuti area, home to some of the most notorious male lions and lion prides in Africa. A unique gene pool boasting massive lion genetics.
As well as very large spotted hyena packs. This is where the multiple award-winning documentary “eternal enemies” was filmed showing the rivalry between Africa’s two largest predators.

Today’s game drive will explore the Savuti terrain in depth, characterised by sandveld, savanna scrub, and mopane veld – allowing for the best animal viewing along the way.
Enjoy the night ahead, absorbing the sounds of the predator-rich surroundings while nestled around the campfire.

Tonight, we will overnight in Savuti.

Day 4: Mobile Camping Safari Enroute to Moremi

You will wake up to the beautiful sounds of the untouched African bushveld. This morning, you will have some time to refresh while your hearty breakfast is made. Having a good meal is an essential part to your long day ahead! You will bid farewell to the magical Savuti environment and make your way to the World-renowned Moremi Game Reserve – also known as the beating heart of the Okavango.

During your game drive, you will also pass through the Kwhai area. Khwai is a wildlife-rich 200,000 hectare sandwiched between Moremi Game Reserve and Chobe National Park. This is one of the best places in Botswana to see wild dogs and other predators and, with no fences separating any of these areas, you are likely to see just about everything that northern Botswana has to offer.

An area of contrasts, Moremi is both a magical mix of winding waterways with a peninsula dry land referred to as the ‘Mopane Tongue’. The mopane trees thrive in this area, boasting excellent density and diversity of animal viewing, including the all-exciting leopard sightings.

Your final night on the mobile safari is concluded with a scrumptious dinner around the campfire in this pristine safari paradise.

We will overnight in Moremi.

Day 5: Game Drive & return to Base Camp near Maun

Rising at the crisp and crack of dawn you will wake up to the sounds of birdcalls, as you step out of your tent you will be greeted by friendly faces and a freshly brewed cup of tea or coffee. We start off with a fresh cup of coffee/tea and delicious cooked breakfast.

Today we embark on our final game drive, returning to our wonderful base camp positioned right beside the stunning Boteti River. During, or just after breakfast, your ranger/guide will speak to you and determine what you would still like to experience and what animals you would still like to encounter so that he could make a conscious effort in doing so on the way back towards our base camp.

Any special interests and photographic requests will be catered for.

Expected arrival back at base camp (Boteti Tented Safari Lodge) will be in the mid-afternoon.

Day 6: Full Day Mokoro Safari and Bush Walk

Waking up at sunrise with the first birdcalls of the day, you will enjoy the crisp morning air before having some freshly brewed coffee/tea and some home baked biscuits prepared for you. A packed breakfast will be supplied to you, before the early morning departure on your full day mokoro safari in the Okavango Delta including a guided walk in the bushveld.

Your Mokoro safari will begin as you head out into the many reed channels of the Okavango Delta. Your guide will already have an update of any exciting or special sightings in the area. Most guides are from the Bayei tribal people who many believe to be the first inhabitants of the Okavango Delta, “people of the Delta” so to speak. You will learn about all aspects of this magical inland oasis from the tiniest of creatures, beautiful reed frogs and big 5 mammal species along the water edge. Your guide will also interpret nature to you in a unique manner and show you traditional and medicinal uses of wild plants in the Delta.

A stop will be made on one of the many islands to enjoy your packed lunch before heading on a nature walk to discover more of this abundant ecosystem. After some relaxing time, you will continue your adventure exploring more of these unlimited channels and choosing to stop at any other islands as you may please. Returning at 16:00pm.

After your return, your long day on safari will end typically with drinks of your choice on the wooden deck overlooking the sunset over the Boteti River while the coolness of the evening sets in, discussing all the excitement and amazing sightings of the day. Followed by dinner typically under the stars in the open Boma.

Day 7: Day at leisure with optional activities

Today, you have the day at leisure to relax at camp – or have a list of activities to choose from to spend the day as you like.

A delicious, cooked breakfast will be served to start off your day.

• 3-hour Horseback Safari (USD 180.00 per person sharing)
• 3-hour Cultural Interaction Tour (USD 130.00 per person sharing)

Day 8: First Day of Nxai Pans Mobile Camping Safari

We will depart camp early in the morning, after a short briefing by your guide about the next two days. The exciting journey to Nxai Pans will then begin.

Nxai Pan National Park is a national park in north-eastern Botswana, consisting of Nxai Pan, which is one of the Makgadikgadi Pan salt flats. Nxai Pan National Park lies just north of the Maun-Nata main road and adjoins Makgadikgadi Pans National Park on its northern border. The pan itself is a fossil lakebed about 40 square km in size.

The National Park is also home to the cluster of millennia-old baobab trees, which owe their name to Thomas Baines, the man known to have discovered them. Baines’ Baobabs, as they are known today, are a sight sought by many travellers venturing into this untamed terrain of Botswana.

This national park is home to elephant, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, lion, leopard, cheetah, kudu, springbok, impala, ostrich, Cape wild dog, jackal, hyena, bat-eared fox, aardwolf, and honey badger.

After arriving in the pans, your guide will prepare a delicious breakfast to give you all the needed energy for this exciting day.

A light lunch will also be served in the late afternoon before continuing with the game drive en-route to the campsite.

Once we arrive, camp will be set up. While you can sit around the open fire, a delicious dinner will be prepared and served under the African sky.

Day 9: Second Day of Nxai Pans Mobile Camping Safari

Day 10: Morning Relaxation and Departure

Enjoy a scrumptious breakfast in a more relaxed fashion this morning, taking in the breath-taking surroundings one last time before you prepare for checkout and transfer to Maun.

The friendly lodge staff will bid you farewell before a transfer back to Maun airport or your choice of drop off point within Maun. This is the end of your tour.
