7-Day Okavango Delta, Moremi Game Reserve & Savuti Experience

Day 1: Arrival and Sunset Mokoro Safari

You will be picked up at Maun airport where you will meet your ranger and guide before leaving on your 20-minute drive to your tented lodge situated on the banks of the Boteti River. After a brief check-in upon arriving at the lodge, your safari activities will be explained over a refreshing complimentary drink.

Depending on your time of arrival, you will have some time for a quick lunch or dip in the pool while exploring the lodge’s natural surroundings before you will leave on an amazing 2-hour sunset Mokoro safari on the Boteti River.

A mokoro safari allows one to glide through nature with little disturbance to the surrounding environment, providing the perfect opportunity of experiencing the Delta and all the beautiful sounds at its most untouched.

Your experienced mokoro guide will point out several interesting aspects of the river and its wildlife during your mokoro trip, before stopping on one of the banks for a small refreshment while enjoying the magnificent sunset.
After your mokoro experience, you will have some time to freshen up and then join us around the open fire.

You can take in the magnificent scenery around you while enjoying a delicious and traditionally prepared meal and glass of wine, while listening to the calls of the night.

Day 2: Full Day Mokoro Safari and Bush Walk

Waking up at sunrise with the first birdcalls of the day, you will enjoy the crisp morning air before having some freshly brewed coffee/tea and some home baked biscuits prepared for you. A packed breakfast will be supplied to you, before the early morning departure on your full day mokoro safari in the Okavango Delta including a guided walk in the bushveld.

Your Mokoro safari will begin as you head out into the many reed channels of the Okavango Delta. Your guide will already have an update of any exciting or special sightings in the area. Most guides are from the Bayei tribal people who many believe to be the first inhabitants of the Okavango Delta, “people of the Delta” so to speak. You will learn about all aspects of this magical inland oasis from the tiniest of creatures, beautiful reed frogs and big 5 mammal species along the water edge. Your guide will also interpret nature to you in a unique manner and show you traditional and medicinal uses of wild plants in the Delta.

A stop will be made on one of the many islands to enjoy your packed lunch before heading on a nature walk to discover more of this abundant ecosystem. After some relaxing time, you will continue your adventure exploring more of these unlimited channels and choosing to stop at any other islands as you may please. Returning at 16:00pm.

After your return, your long day on safari will end typically with drinks of your choice on the wooden deck overlooking the sunset over the Boteti River while the coolness of the evening sets in, discussing all the excitement and amazing sightings of the day. Followed by dinner typically under the stars in the open Boma.

Day 3: Mobile Camping Safari into Moremi Game Reserve & Savuti areas

After breakfast, served between 7AM and 8AM, you can get your things ready for your mobile tented safari. You will be met and briefed by your guide at the reception area. You will cover a large distance over the next few days, while extensive game drives most of the days.

After the briefing you will make your way past Moremi Game Reserve to Savuti – a place of enchantment and greatest concentration of animals in the Southern African region. Bordered by the Delta and Chobe National Park, Savuti is famous for its lengthy fascinating and mysterious channel. Along the way, you will be served with some light snacks while your game ranger uses his exceptional skills to interpret wildlife to you in a unique way.

After a long and usually tiring but always exciting day you will make your way late in the afternoon to your beautifully lantern lit campsite where you will meet the rest of the camping team, often getting the smell of your traditional dinner being freshly prepared, as you approach.

Sit around the open fire and absorb the magnificence around you while enjoying a delicious meal and glass of wine while listening to the calls of the night.

We will overnight in Savuti.

Day 4: Mobile Camping Safari Exploring the Savuti Area

We start off with a fresh cup of coffee/tea and delicious cooked breakfast.

On this day you will continue your game drive and make your way to several places of interest within the Savuti area, home to some of the most notorious male lions and lion prides in Africa. A unique gene pool boasting massive lion genetics. As well as very large spotted hyena packs. This is where the multiple award-winning documentary “eternal enemies” was filmed showing the rivalry between Africa’s two largest predators.

Today’s game drive will explore the Savuti terrain in depth, characterized by Sandveld, Savanna scrub, and Mopane veld – allowing for the best animal viewing along the way.

Savuti is known as a big game area, home to some of the largest concentrations of wildlife in the Southern region of Africa – including elephants, sable, buffalo, zebra, warthogs, and more. It is also a region well-known for its abundance of predators such as leopard, lion, hyena, jackals, and the occasional cheetahs.

Enjoy the night ahead, absorbing the sounds of the predator-rich surroundings while nestled around the campfire.

Tonight, we will overnight in Savuti.

Day 5: Mobile Camping Safari Enroute to Moremi

You will wake up to the beautiful sounds of the untouched African bushveld. This morning, you will have some time to refresh while your hearty breakfast is made. Having a good meal is an essential part to your long day ahead! You will bid farewell to the magical Savuti environment and make your way to the World-renowned Moremi Game Reserve – also known as the beating heart of the Okavango.

During your game drive, you will also pass through the Kwhai area. Khwai is a wildlife-rich 200,000 hectare sandwiched between Moremi Game Reserve and Chobe National Park. This is one of the best places in Botswana to see wild dogs and other predators and, with no fences separating any of these areas, you are likely to see just about everything that northern Botswana has to offer.

An area of contrasts, Moremi is both a magical mix of winding waterways with a peninsula dry land referred to as the ‘Mopane Tongue’. The Mopane trees thrive in this area, boasting excellent density and diversity of animal viewing, including the all-exciting leopard sightings.

Your final night on the mobile safari is concluded with a scrumptious dinner around the campfire in this pristine safari paradise.

We will overnight in Moremi.

Day 6: Game Drive & return to Base Camp near Maun

Rising at the crisp and crack of dawn you will wake up to the sounds of birdcalls, as you step out of your tent you will be greeted by friendly faces and a freshly brewed cup of tea or coffee. We start off with a fresh cup of coffee/tea and delicious cooked breakfast.

Today we embark on our final game drive, returning to our wonderful base camp positioned right beside the stunning Boteti River. During, or just after breakfast, your ranger/guide will speak to you and determine what you would still like to experience and what animals you would still like to encounter so that he could make a conscious effort in doing so on the way back towards our base camp.

Any special interests and photographic requests will be catered for.

Expected arrival back at base camp (Boteti Tented Safari Lodge) will be in the mid-afternoon.

Day 7: Scenic Helicopter Flight over Okavango Delta & Departure

This morning, a delicious breakfast and freshly brewed coffee/tea will be served in a more relaxed fashion.

After the previous few days spent mostly in a game drive vehicle, you will have most of the morning at leisure to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere at camp, relaxing on the river deck or lounge area.

As the final goodbye to your amazing 7-Day safari experience, you will join us for a 45-min scenic helicopter fight over the Okavango Delta.

Once in the air with the helicopter, you will take in views of the beautiful channels that meander through the papyrus-fringed waterways, passing palm-covered islands. Gear up for high chances of heart-stopping excitement and big game viewing. Observe how the channels wander through the delta in ever-changing paths as this dynamic water system evolves. The vastness of this pristine wilderness is breath-taking.

Sightseeing from the helicopter will give you the ultimate view of the Okavango Delta’s spectacular geography and wildlife. There is no better way to grasp the outstanding beauty of the Okavango Delta region.

Once the flight is complete, your will be dropped on the banks of the camp again, as short walk away from your tent.

Upon return to camp, you will have some time to pack up and get ready for your transfer to Maun Airport (or pre-arranged location in Maun itself). After drop-off, we will greet you with a warm goodbye. This is the end of your tour.
